About this session:
Traditional political engagement tools -- town halls, doorknocking, broadcast media -- systematically miss the same people: younger voters, renters, culturally diverse communities, and those with low institutional trust. This session presents a deliberative democracy model powered by programmatic and digital media that inverts the old approach. Rather than broadcasting at audiences, hyper-local digital campaigns create a two-way loop: precision-targeted media surfaces genuine community questions, drives respondents into structured consultation mechanisms, and feeds real data back into policy and messaging. Drawing on live case studies from Australian federal and state campaigns, I’ll show how programmatic and social media can replace the megaphone with a microphone -- and what the data from those conversations actually looks like.
